SAHAY

Ensuring access to health and nutrition

SAHAY’s  health services program ensures accessible healthcare for children and youth through initiatives like telemedicine during COVID-19 and awareness campaigns for caregivers. The Demand Generation program promotes timely treatment and disease prevention, while workshops educate communities on adolescent anemia and communicable diseases. The Nutrition program combats malnutrition in young children by providing supplementary food and empowering caregivers with healthy practices for sustainable growth.

Telemedicine During COVID

During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine services were made available to all children and youth. Registered doctors provided consultations on three designated days each week, ensuring continued access to healthcare during this challenging time.

Demand Generation

The Demand Generation program targets beneficiaries aged 2 to 19, ensuring their access to essential health services. The program focuses on raising awareness among caregivers about the availability of both primary and specialized healthcare, as well as helping them recognize symptoms of common diseases and seek timely treatment at healthcare facilities. In collaboration with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, sensitization workshops were held to raise awareness about adolescent anaemia and communicable diseases. These workshops aimed to educate the community and promote better understanding and prevention of these health issues.

Nutrition

The Nutrition programme focuses on children aged 2 to 5 years with SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) and MAM (Moderate Acute Malnutrition). MUAC (Mid Upper Arm Circumference) was used as a growth monitoring tool. Caregivers are trained to empower them to undertake healthy nutrition practices, behaviors and attitude for both preventive and rehabilitative remedies. To support recovery, all SAM and MAM children are provided with a supplementary food basket to improve their nutritional status. The program aims to reduce malnutrition by empowering caregivers and ensuring children receive the necessary support to achieve healthier growth outcomes.
